What do you think?

Visiting my mom recently I heard a remark, made to her, that truly disturbed me.

My mom (82) has lived a life of chronic pain from rheumatoid arthritis for as long as I can remember. With her crocked and deformed hands she can no longer hold a drinking glass. Her shoulders are frozen in place, making it almost impossible to reach for anything. Added to this, she has been on kidney dialysis, 3 times a week, every week, for almost 2 years. Each dialysis session is 4 hours long.

The remark (made by an openly christian, home nurse) went something like this:
Isn't it marvelous how many people you have brought to jesus because of your suffering? (This statement was made on palm Sunday and the nurse had just been to church services.)

What a horrible thing to say! Why has my mom suffered, decades of pain, so others can find jesus? I would've loved to get on my soap box, but out of respect for my mom, I bit my tongue.

Do people really believe this crap?
